The situation
Effective April 1, 2018, the United Arab Emirates Cabinet suspended its decision requiring employment visa applicants to obtain a certificate of good conduct. The suspension is in effect until further notice.
Background
The requirement for employment visa applicants to submit a legalized certificate of good conduct from their home country or from a country of residence in the past five years applied from February 1 through April 1, 2018.
A certificate of good conduct is a police clearance certificate, however the former term is now more commonly used by the authorities in the United Arab Emirates.
Looking ahead
Fragomen will monitor how this suspension practically impacts the actions of government agencies, including the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and free zone authorities and will report additional information as developments occur.
