Bangladesh: New Two-Week Filing Window for Visa Extension Applications Implemented

Effective immediately, the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) has implemented a new filing window for visa extension applications. Following verbal instructions from the newly appointed Assistant Director (Visa), the Visa Application Receiving Section will generally only accept applications submitted within two weeks before the applicant’s existing visa expires. Previously, the DIP did not strictly enforce this filing window. 

In urgent cases, applicants may seek to file earlier by providing a copy of their confirmed flight itinerary; however, acceptance of the application will remain at the DIP’s discretion. 
 
As the new filing window was implemented without prior notice, applicants should plan accordingly and, where possible, remain in Bangladesh while their application is processed. Processing typically takes between one and four weeks from the date of submission, depending on application volumes and whether additional information or documentation is requested. If the extension or renewal application is filed before the existing visa expires, the applicant’s lawful stay in Bangladesh will not be affected while the application is pending.
