In allen Statistiken weltweit ist die Schweiz in Bezug auf Ihren Lebensstandard immer mindestens in den Top 10. Es ist daher kaum verwunderlich, dass die Schweiz auch für ausländische Arbeitnehmer interessant ist. Kantone wie zum Beispiel Zug, Zürich oder Genf sind bei Expats äusserst beliebt. In Zürich ist es beispielsweise normal, dass man im Alltag durchaus auch auf Englisch angesprochen werden kann. Aber wer sind diese Expats, gibt es verschiedene Typen? Finden Sie hier eine kleine Liste von verschiedenen Expats:

Der Optimierer

Anteil der Schweizer Expats: 18 Prozent.

Gründe für den Umzug: Die Suche nach einer besseren Lebensqualität, finanzielle Gründe oder Politik, Religion und persönliche Sicherheit.

Eigenschaften: Die Optimierer ziehen um, weil sie viele Vorteile im Leben im Ausland sehen. Meist sind sie anschliessend sehr zufrieden mit ihrem Entscheid, arbeiten Vollzeit und beklagen sich nicht mehr über ihre finanzielle Situation. Ausserdem haben diese Personen nur wenige Probleme damit, sich in ihrer neuen Heimat einzuleben, und sie finden sich rasch in der neuen Kultur zurecht.

Das zeichnet ihr Leben im Ausland aus: Sie verfügen über mittelmässige Kenntnisse der Landessprache und sind nur selten hauptsächlich mit Einheimischen befreundet. Oft bleiben sie dennoch dauerhaft im Ausland.

Der Entsandte

Anteil der Schweizer Expats: 16 Prozent

Gründe für den Umzug: Die Entscheidung kam vom Arbeitgeber

Eigenschaften: Beinahe jeder Entsandte ist vollzeitbeschäftigt und arbeitet durchschnittlich 46,1 Arbeitsstunden pro Woche. Weltweit sind mehr als drei von fünf Entsandten mit ihren Karrierechancen zufrieden, und fast sieben von zehn halten ihren Arbeitsplatz für sicher. 60 Prozent halten es aber auch für wahrscheinlich, früher oder später in ihr Heimatland zurückzukehren. Dies könnte unter anderem daran liegen, dass einer von fünf Entsandten, der in einer Beziehung lebt, alleine ins Ausland gereist ist und eine Fernbeziehung führt.

Das zeichnet ihr Leben im Ausland aus: Der Entsandte verfügt über mittelmässige Kenntnisse der Landessprache und ist nur selten mit Einheimischen befreundet.

Mitreisende Partner

Anteil der Schweizer Expats: 6 Prozent.

Gründe für den Umzug: Der Partner/die Partnerin zieht für seine/ihre Arbeit um.

Eigenschaften: Beinahe neun von zehn Mitreisenden weltweit sind weiblich. Da sie aufgrund des Jobs ihres Partners umziehen, kommt es oft vor, dass sich diese Expats in der neuen Heimat hauptsächlich um das Heim und die Kinder kümmern. Meist sind sie auch auf Arbeitssuche. Es fällt ihnen überdurchschnittlich schwer, sich im Ausland einzugewöhnen, und mehr als die Hälfte fühlt sich im Gastland nicht zu Hause. Freunde zu finden, wird ebenfalls als sehr schwierig eingeschätzt.

Das sind nur einige der verschiedenen Typen von Expats, die es in der Schweiz gibt. Eine unlängst veröffentlichte Befragung von Internations hat aber gezeigt, dass sich die Schweiz auf einer Skala von 65 Ländern bei insgesamt 13‘000 befragten Personen nur auf Rang 27 befindet. Was sind die Gründe dafür?

Die in der Schweiz befragten Expats geben als Hauptgründe vor allem die hohen Lebenserhaltungskosten und das „Sich-Einleben“ an. Fast sieben von Zehn berichten davon, Schwierigkeiten beim Finden von Freunden zu haben. Aus weiteren Gründen wie der schwierigen Sprache, der Schweizer Kultur und auch der grossen Expat-Community sind fast die Hälfte der Befragten fast ausschliesslich mit anderen Expats befreundet.

Das ist schade. Gerade eine internationale Firma wie Fragomen zeigt, dass ein Miteinander immer besser funktioniert. Man muss sich eingestehen, dass die Schweizer tatsächlich manchmal ein wenig stur und misstrauisch sein können. Man darf aber auch nicht vergessen, dass gerade die Schweiz eine riesige Vielfalt und Lebensqualität bietet. Da sind zum Beispiel die ausgezeichneten Schulen, die internationale Vernetzung, der geographische Vorteil und die Tatsache, dass die Schweiz über vier Landesprachen verfügt.
