The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) has announced key changes following a significant federal reduction in its 2025 nomination allocation. Of the 4,000 nominations granted to the province, approximately 1,100 will be used to accept new applications from healthcare employees, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers, which are targeted positions in demand by the British Columbia economy. The remaining 2,900 nominations will be allocated to applications already received. Notable program updates include the following: International Post-Graduate (IPG) applications submitted between September 1, 2024, and January 7, 2025, will be waitlisted until more nominations become available; there are not expected to be any general and targeted Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in 2025, aside from a limited number of high-impact candidates (approximately 100 individuals from a pool of over 10,000 registrants) due to the reduced nomination allocation; invitations under the Entrepreneur Immigration stream are expected to continue throughout the year; eligibility for the Health Authority stream will now be limited to positions directly involved in healthcare delivery; Early Childhood Educator Assistants will no longer be targeted, while updated guidelines for social and community service workers are under development; and plans to launch three new student streams are paused until nomination levels are restored.
