Canada: Temporary Measures for Haitian and Sudanese Nationals Updated
October 28, 2026
Canada has updated and extended its temporary work permit measures for eligible Haitian and Sudanese nationals and their eligible family members until December 30, 2027. Effective October 28, 2026, eligible individuals may apply for a work permit renewal of up to three years, subject to standard processing fees.
To qualify, applicants must hold a valid work permit issued under a previous temporary public policy for Haitian or Sudanese nationals or eligible family members who fled the conflict in either country. They must be in Canada with valid temporary resident status both when applying and when a decision is made, meet general work permit eligibility and admissibility requirements and have not already received a renewal under the October 28, 2026 measures.
