The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have announced they will reopen NEXUS enrollment centers at eight Canadian airports by Spring 2023 and will implement a new optional program allowing U.S.-led interviews to be conducted at Canadian airports. Starting March 20, 2023, travelers can book interviews at certain airports according to a published schedule. Applicants can choose from three options for their NEXUS interviews: (1) a joint U.S.-Canada interview at a land enrollment center in the U.S.; (2) a split option, in which they complete an interview at a Canadian airport enrollment center and then have an interview at a U.S. enrollment center close to the Canadian border; or (3) a new two-step option, where CBSA officers based at the Canadian airport enrollment centers complete the Canadian portion of the NEXUS interview; then CBP officers complete the U.S. interview at Canadian airport pre-clearance locations when applicants depart Canada to fly to the U.S. Applicants must complete their two NEXUS interviews in the same mode – either land or air – but not a combination of the two. The NEXUS program, jointly run by CBSA and CBP, is designed to expedite the border clearance process for pre-approved NEXUS members traveling between Canada and the United States.
