Colombia: Increased Scrutiny of Immigration Documentation for Mexican Nationals

For the past few weeks, immigration officials in Colombia have been strictly scrutinizing Mexican nationals' documentation upon arrival. The measure is likely based on reciprocity, as Mexico now requires all Colombian passport holders to complete an online pre-registration prior to traveling to Mexico, and an increasing number of Colombian nationals have recently been ruled inadmissible to Mexico. Mexican nationals traveling to Colombia should ensure that they carry the proper documentation: visa holders should carry their valid visa, valid passport and valid Colombian Identity Card (cédula de extranjería), if applicable; and those entering for business or tourism should carry a valid passport (valid for least six months is recommended), round-trip ticket, proof of accommodation and proof of financial means to cover their stay in Colombia. Mexican nationals should also allow sufficient time for passport and immigration document checks when traveling to Colombia.
