On 7 October 2025, the National Contact Point of the European Migration Network (EMN) at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) will host its national conference in Berlin:
“Family Reunification – Between Fundamental Rights and the Need for Migration Control.”
Marking over two decades since the EU Directive on family reunification came into force, the conference will examine current challenges, legal developments, and best practices across Europe. Experts and policymakers from Germany and other EU Member States will discuss how to balance humanitarian rights with migration management, addressing issues such as refugee family reunification and pathways for skilled workers.
The event will feature speakers from France, the Netherlands, Spain, and various German ministries, alongside representatives from civil society and academia. Sessions will be held in German and English with simultaneous translation.
Registration is open until 1 October 2025 for professionals in the field.
Fragomen Partner Marius Tollenaere will participate in the Keynote and Panel session (1:00 – 12:30) titled “Family Reunification Today: Challenges and Best Practices.”
The panel will highlight innovative policy approaches and practical solutions for managing family reunification, drawing on Fragomen’s international experience and cross-border perspective.
