Director of Immigration Resignation to Cause Residence Permit Approval Delays

 

Due to the resignation of the General Director of Immigration, foreign nationals awaiting issuance and renewal of Residence Permits and Permanent Residence approvals will likely experience delays, as the Director must sign every approval. No replacement has yet been identified, and it is unclear how significant the delays may be.

Applications filed abroad, such as the Business Visa for Employment Purposes and Residence Visa, are not affected by these delays since they are overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign nationals who arrive under a consular-issued Residence Visa must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days of arrival in the Dominican Republic.

Foreign nationals should also expect upcoming changes in Residence Permit processing policies and procedures, as these are inevitable with a leadership change of this magnitude.
