Dominican Republic: Possible Processing Delays During Transition to New Immigration Director
April 17, 2024
The Director of the Immigration Department, who adjudicates immigration applications in the Dominican Republic, has resigned and a new Director has yet to be appointed. As a result, immigration application processing could be delayed for the next several months until the President of the Dominican Republic appoints a new Director and during the transitional period. Delays could affect new Residence Permit applications, residence permit renewals, change of status applications, and guarantee deposit withdrawals, among others, which are processed by the General Directorate of Migration. Forthcoming policy changes are also possible. Fragomen will monitor the situation and report on relevant changes as they occur.
