Ecuador: Identity Card Printing Issues Causing Processing Delays

The Civil Registry in Ecuador is experiencing a shortage of printing materials, which is preventing its offices nationwide from printing new or renewal local Identity Cards. While a local Identity Card is not required to legally work in Ecuador, foreign nationals who do not have a local Identity Card may face restrictions initiating financial processes, such as opening a bank account; or initiating certain administrative processes such as signing lease agreements or enrolling children in school.
