In this Mobility Minute, Senior Manager Ana Sofia Walsh discusses the European Union's new temporary protection directive, which has created a special expedited procedure to deal with the mass influx of individuals in need of international protection. Activated for the first time in March 2022 in response to the Ukraine crisis, the directive applies to all EU countries except Denmark, which opted out.
Ana Sofia explains the minimum standards for giving protection to individuals in the event of a mass influx that the directive outlines, including access to accommodations, social welfare, healthcare, education and access to the labour market.
