Effective June 11, 2025, residence permit holders will no longer be limited to working in the profession designated under their permit, but will be able to also work in labor shortage areas as listed by Finnish authorities. Currently, affected individuals need to apply for a new residence permit if they want to change roles. The list of shortage roles – which goes into effect on June 11, 2025 and will be valid for one year – includes several medical professions, physical therapists, and firefighters. This list will be periodically reviewed and amended, with possible changes scheduled for as early as the beginning of 2026.
