TORONTO, December 15, 2022 – Fragomen, the world’s leading provider of immigration services, applauds the recent announcement by the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship to expand the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) and include additional funding to partner organizations which help place skilled refugees with employers and fill labour shortages in Canada.

Following the launch of the first phase of the EMPP, Canada helped launch the Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility in April 2022. Fragomen is one of the eight founding members of the Global Task Force, together with Canada, Australia, the United Nations Refugee Agency, the International Organization for Migration, the International Chamber of Commerce, Talent Beyond Boundaries and RefugePoint.

“We are honored to be a part of the Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility and work with the Canadian government, various agencies and organizations on this important initiative,” said David Crawford, Managing Partner, Fragomen Canada. “We have long-partnered with Talent Beyond Boundaries in Canada to help connect talented refugees with employers, especially during a time when there is a shortage of skilled workers across a number of key industries.”

According to the press release from the Minister’s office, Canada is rolling out a new and more flexible process with its trusted partners who will now be able to directly refer and support candidates. To help them with this new role, trusted partners will receive mandatory training and go through quality assurance reviews. Additionally, Canada is providing $6.2 million CAD to support 6 projects by EMPP partner organizations. These projects will build the capacity of these organizations in key areas, including identifying qualified candidates overseas, and supporting candidates and employers throughout the interview, hiring, and immigration processes. Funding will also support the work of a partner organization that helps EMPP newcomers with affordable microloans.
