Fragomen in London recently partnered with Project Dirt, Open Orchard and Urban Growth, for the creation of Brixton Orchard. The orchard has become a new green space with 35 fruit trees and hundreds of edible hedges, showcasing how fruit trees can be integrated into urban spaces.
Brixton Orchard is a community project which aims to encourage more people to interact with and learn about the natural world on their doorstep - even in the unlikeliest of places, at one of London’s busiest road junctions. The Orchard has been commissioned and funded by the Brixton Business Improvement District.
Our team in London worked with the volunteers to dig 17-tree pits and plant 17 cherry trees. Despite some adverse weather conditions, the team constructed tree guards and helped local school children get involved with planting hawthorn and other edible shrubs. We were delighted to be involved in another branch of the excellent work of Urban Growth and Project Dirt.
The effort demonstrates Fragomen’s continued commitment to giving back to the community and staying involved with the civic engagement interests of its employees.
