About United Kingdom

Whether your company is sending employees to the United Kingdom or expanding your worldwide footprint—Fragomen is here to help. Our experienced immigration professionals partner with businesses of all sizes to develop immigration strategies that can help you achieve your goals.

  • The United Kingdom's immigration system provides several options for employers of foreign nationals. Requirements, processing times, employment eligibility and benefits for accompanying family members vary by visa type.
  • Business visitors to the United Kingdom require a Visitor Visa before entry unless they are visa exempt based on their nationality. While business visits are legally possible for up to six cumulative months in 12 months, any trip over six consecutive weeks or frequent visits per month requires review by an immigration professional. All business visitors must respect the allowable activities under business visitor status and are advised to carry a support letter confirming the nature and duration of their stay.
  • The main work authorization categories are the Skilled Worker visa, for skilled workers with a local job offer and the Global Business Mobility Route Subcategory 1- Senior or Specialist Worker visa for intracompany transfers. Other work authorization options include the Innovator Founder and the Global Talent visa. Dependents may accompany the foreign national under these categories. The United Kingdom uses a points-based system to determine fulfilment of visa conditions and employer sponsorship via sponsorship licences.
  • There are also work authorization options for internships, including the Global Business Mobility: Graduate Trainee visa and the Temporary Worker – Government Authorised Exchange (GAE) visa. The GAE visa is available to EEA and non-EEA nationals for short-term work experience/internship programs. Fragomen is an authorized sponsor of the International Internship Scheme. Access further information on our Fragomen International Internship Scheme.

Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
