Fragomen Summer Associate Trip to Federal Plaza
August 23, 2017
Our associates had an exciting time visiting the Jacob K. Javits Federal Office Building at 26 Federal Plaza in New York, during the recent Summer Associate Trip. The visit gave them an opportunity to get an insider’s view of all areas of immigration practice and expand their knowledge of immigration law.
During this trip, the associates met with Assistant Chief Immigration Judge James Loprest and Judicial Law Clerk Kate Scanlan of the EOIR Honors Program. Besides interacting with both they were also able to witness part of Judge Loprest's Master Calendar Hearings afterward.
The associates also met with the most senior leadership from New York's District Director's Office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, including Acting District Director John E. Thompson, Deputy District Director Tim Houghton and Field Office Director, Barbara Felska.
This portion of the visit included a lengthy Q&A session with the three, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the InfoPass, Adjustment of Status and Naturalization units. Finally, they witnessed part of an actual naturalization oath ceremony.
