Ghana: National Petroleum Authority Letter Required for Some Petroleum Companies

The Ghanaian immigration authority has introduced a new requirement for companies operating within the petroleum downstream sector to submit a copy of their National Petroleum Authority (NPA) letter when filing a work permit application on behalf of a foreign national employee. Previously, this document was not required, but immigration authorities may now, at their discretion, request it during the adjudication process. Where the NPA letter is requested from immigration authorities and a company does not already hold one, issuance by the NPA may take four to six weeks, which is likely to result in delays in the finalization of the work permit application.
