Hungary: Increased Penalties for Illegally Employing Foreign Nationals

Fines for illegally employing foreign nationals have increased to HUF 150,000 (approximately EUR 390) for a single violation, and a maximum of HUF 25,000,000 (approximately EUR 65,000) for a multi-violation fine. Previously, fines ranged from between HUF 5,000-500,000 per foreign national. Amid increased fines, employers should confirm all employees have valid residence and work documentation and ensure the adequacy of their internal auditing mechanisms.
