Mainland China: Improvements for Foreign Permanent Resident Identification Cards
December 14, 2023
The government has launched a new version of the Foreign Permanent Resident Identification Card. Those with old cards can apply for a new card, though this is optional. The new cards offer more advanced anti-counterfeiting technology and an improved design. Holders of this card can use it a separate personal identification document where proof of personal identity is required, without having to present their foreign passport. Additionally, holders of this card can now register and order Chinese railway tickets online, giving them access to the same online services and self-services offered by the railway administration to national Resident Identification Card holders.
