Malaysia: Special Investor Pass Forthcoming
March 24, 2026
Update March 24, 2026: The "Existing Investor" category will be removed from the Investor Pass online system. Applicants under this category should instead apply for an Employment Pass or a Professional Visit Pass, subject to the relevant eligibility requirements. Investor Pass applications under the "Existing Investor" category that remain in draft status will be automatically removed from the system effective March 13, 2026. Investors who already own a company in Malaysia or hold a directorship in a company are not eligible to apply for the Investor Pass, as such applications fall outside the scope of the current Investor Pass policy.
March 26, 2025: Effective April 1, 2025, the Malaysian government will implement a special investor pass to facilitate extended stays for foreign investors and foreign nationals. This new pass will permit an initial six-month stay, with the possibility of a six-month extension based on individual requirements. Additionally, holders will receive a Multiple-Entry Visa (MEV), allowing for more flexible travel arrangements. Currently, foreign investors are granted social visit passes valid for only 14 to 90 days, depending on their country of origin. Applicants will be able to submit an application for the special investors pass electronically through the Xpats Gateway platform. More information is available on the Xpats Gateway website.
