Mauritius: New Conditions for Occupation Permit, Young Professional Permit and Permanent Residency Applications

The Minister of Finance has introduced the following stricter immigration rules:
- Occupation Permits (Investor Category). The Economic Development Board (EDB) will grant Occupation Permits for investors for up to 10 years, based on the income derived from the activity in Mauritius; the EDB will review compliance in Year 5 and may revoke the permit if investors fail to meet the required levels, while successful applicants may retain it until Year 10, when another review will take place. Previously, Occupation Permits for investors were granted for a fixed period of 10 years, subject only to the eligibility requirements, with no interim review of revenue targets.
- Young Professional Permit minimum salary. The EDB has introduced a minimum monthly basic salary of MUR 25,000 for the Young Professional Permit. Previously, there was no minimum monthly salary.
- Permanent residency criteria. Investors, professionals, self-employed individuals, and retired non-citizens applying for permanent residency must have held a valid permit for at least five years (up from three years), and they are now subject to higher income and investment thresholds, depending on the category.
