Nepal: New Online Portal for Registration of Stay
January 28, 2026
Nepal has opened a new online portal called the Foreign Nationals Management Information System (FNMIS) to maintain records of the stay and activities of foreign nationals entering Nepal. Foreign nationals can register for the system through the Department of Immigration's mobile application by providing their passport and visa details. The rollouts will occur in phases, each requiring foreign nationals to register in the system: phase 1 (already in effect) is for foreign nationals staying in star-rated hotels within Kathmandu Valley (these foreign nationals should register under the system upon arrival – otherwise their stay provider will need to make sure they register upon arrival to the place of stay); and phase 2 (which starts March 1, 2026) is for foreign nationals staying in all star hotels, airlines, travel companies, and money exchange services nationwide. Subsequent phases will extend coverage to all hotels, guest houses and other public and private institutions. In light of this increased monitoring, foreign nationals should strictly limit their activities to those permitted under the visa category under which they entered Nepal to avoid penalties and fines.
