The Netherlands: In-Country Activation of Visa-Exempt Period to Be Possible for Certain Applicants
February 5, 2024
Effective February 15, 2024, visa-exempt nationals whose residence permit has expired or been voluntarily cancelled will be able to remain in the Netherlands for 90 days within any 180-day period pursuant to their visa-exempt rights without first having to leave the country. Currently, such individuals must first leave the Schengen Area before their visa-exempt stay period can commence. However, this will not apply if the Dutch immigration authorities withdrew the residence permit or if the foreign national received a 'return decision'.
