Niger: Alliance of Sahel States’ Biometric Identity Card Announced

As part of the Alliance of Sahel States’ (AES) initiative to harmonize travel and identity documents within the AES confederation, the Nigerien Council of Ministers has adopted a decree to establish AES biometric national identity cards which will be required for all citizens aged 15 and up. These AES biometric national identity cards will allow individuals to travel throughout the AES without a passport. However, the date of implementation of this new requirement and any penalties for not obtaining the card have not yet been announced.
