Nigeria: Online Passport Service Expanded
November 4, 2024
Update - November 4, 2024: Nigeria Immigration Services expanded its digital passport renewal service available on the NIS Immigration Service portal to Nigerian nationals living in Canada. Following the rollout in Canada, the NIS will open this service to Nigerian nationals living in the United Kingdom, United States and Italy on November 15, after which it will be available in Nigeria and other countries from December 1, 2024. Applicants will have the option to have their passports delivered to their home address or location where they submitted their passport renewal application. The NIS is expected to launch an app to enable applicants to renew their passport in the next coming months.
January 9, 2024: Effective January 8, 2024, the Nigerian Immigration Services has expanded its online passport services for Nigerian nationals living in Nigeria and residing abroad. Applicants will be able to apply (and renew) and complete their passport application process online, upload photos and supporting documents, make payments, schedule appointments for biometrics and track their passport status. Previously, applicants were required to submit documents in person during a scheduled appointment. Passport application fees remain unchanged. The online passport application process will reduce the passport application processing time and is part of the government’s initiative to modernize and ease passport services and processes.
