Most foreign nationals are unable to complete mandatory registration with the Federal Police in São Paulo this week. The Federal Police has suspended some services in São Paulo to give priority to the registration of newly-arrived foreign doctors under a humanitarian program to address widespread shortages of physicians in poor areas.
Business and tourist visa extensions filed at the Federal Police in São Paulo are also likely to be delayed.

Employers are advised to take registration delays into account when planning assignments to São Paulo in the coming weeks. Registrations may be delayed beyond next week as the Federal Police works through backlogs caused by the week-long suspension.
