Romania: 2024 Work Permit Quota Released
January 11, 2024
The Romanian government has issued 100,000 non-EU national work authorization quota spots for 2024 – the same amount as for 2022 and 2023. Similar to the harmonization of Romanian minimum salary thresholds, there is no division between work authorization types within the permit quota. Previously, there had been discussions at government level about increasing the work authorization quota to 140,000 for 2024 amid a tight labor market (especially in key industries such as construction, food service, road transport, and postal and courier services). However, the proposed quota increase ultimately did not occur. The reasons for not increasing the quota have not been announced, however it is worth noting that the 2023 quota was not filled by the end of the year.
