Saudi Arabia: Temporary Regularization Initiative for Certain Yemeni Nationals
November 6, 2026
Effective October 11, 2026, Saudi Arabia has introduced a two-month initiative allowing eligible Yemeni nationals with irregular immigration status or outstanding absence-from-work reports to regularize their status. For employers, the initiative is particularly relevant where affected Yemeni nationals have expired residence permits or outstanding absence-from-work reports (as may have happened due to prolonged stays in Yemen due to the geopolitical situation). Under the initiative, eligible Yemeni nationals now benefit from the following concessions:
-
-
- A free six-month visit visa, subject to first obtaining proof of Yemeni nationality through a Yemeni consular post;
- Extension of an expired visitor visa or identification for six months;
- Transfer to another employer if their residence permit (Iqama) has expired;
- Cancellation of the absence report if the individual has been reported absent from work (an absence from work report can prevent a worker from being able to transfer to another employer or obtain an exit visa); and
- Issuance of a final exit visa.
-
Applications can be submitted through relevant digital platforms or with in-person assistance at designated regularization centers across Saudi Arabia. Employers with affected Yemeni workers should review their immigration and employment status and complete the necessary procedures within the initiative period.
