Singapore: Minimum Salary Amount for Local Workers to Increase

Effective July 1, 2024, sponsoring companies will only be able to include local employees earning at least SGD 1,600 (up from SGD 1,400) in calculating their foreign worker quota allocation, per a rule called a ‘local qualifying salary’ that requires employers to properly compensate local workers in order to qualify to hire foreign workers. This amount has not changed since 2020. This change means that employers will need to compensate local workers higher to be able to employ more foreign workers.
