Slovakia: Business Residence Permit Restrictions and Rule Changes
June 3, 2025
The Slovak government will be implementing several changes to the Business Residence Permit on July 1, 2025, which is primarily for business owners, entrepreneurs, and freelancers. Initial applications will need to be submitted through Slovak consular posts instead of through the Slovakian immigration agency (also known as the ‘foreign police’), which will lengthen processing times. The government will also be introducing a quota (the number is yet to be confirmed). Lastly, physical photographs and financial coverage documents will no longer be required. These changes reflect the authorities’ preference for standard employment permits, as some companies misuse business permits to avoid tax and social contributions.
