Suriname: Fast-Track Service Now in Effect for Immigration Filings
July 17, 2025
Suriname’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation has officially launched the One Stop Unit (OSU), a new, optional service that enables applicants to submit Short-Stay Visa (MKV), Work Permit, and Residence Permit applications together in a single, consolidated package. Although announced in October 2024, the OSU only recently became operational. Under the older process, these applications are submitted separately in a sequential process, with the MKV required to be submitted before the Work and Residence Permit applications could proceed. This often results in processing times of six months or more. By contrast, the OSU allows for all three applications to be reviewed concurrently, reducing the estimated processing time to approximately three to four weeks, assuming documentation is complete and subject to the Ministry’s internal workflows. The documentation requirements for each application type remain unchanged under the new process. Applicants opting for this expedited service will be subject to an additional government fee of USD 1,500.
