Sweden: Health Insurance Review May Result in Stricter Health Insurance Requirements
March 31, 2022
The Migration Agency is reviewing international insurance policies to check whether their coverage meets Swedish national requirements. Providers including Cigna and Allianz do not cover loss of income due to illness, a requirement under Swedish law. The Migration Agency is expected to issue guidance on next steps for affected permit holders and their employers shortly. There are indications that retroactive correction may not be required, but this is not yet fully confirmed. For the time being, employers are reminded that they should sign employees up for local Swedish comprehensive health insurance for assigned workers to prevent issues.
