Switzerland/United Kingdom: Recognition of Professional Qualification Agreement Signed
June 20, 2023

According to an announcement by the UK Department of Business, the United Kingdom and Switzerland have signed an agreement to recognize professional qualifications in both countries. The ambition is for the agreement to come into force at the start of 2025 subject to the completion of domestic processes in both countries and will replace the interim-related arrangements with Switzerland which had been agreed upon ahead of Brexit. Once the agreement is in effect, UK-qualified professionals in regulated sectors (including law, architecture and audit) seeking to have their qualifications recognized in Switzerland will be subject to simpler and more relaxed rules, and vice versa. The agreement would also result in some qualifications being automatically recognized without the need for the submission of documents. The agreement is intended to boost trade between the two countries by providing longer-term certainty for UK and Swiss professionals regarding the arrangements for recognition of their professional qualifications.
