Growing visa backlogs are slowing the arrival of much-needed skilled labour in the country, and reducing the number of applications is a top priority to help support mobility for international workers.
"Longer term, the ability to have a forum and more economic input around skills matching – which is making sure that the skills of the migrant actually match what they’re going to do – would be really helpful. If the government reformed this program to make sure it’s current with what is a pretty moving and agile economic market and labour market, that would be helpful into the future," Teresa says.
