United Kingdom: Time Spent Under Short-Term Visas No Longer Counts Towards Permanent Residence
June 6, 2023
As a reminder, the Statement of Changes issued in March 2023 included the introduction of new definitions which disqualify the time spent in the United Kingdom under a short-term visa (students, seasonal workers, visitors) from counting toward the 10-year continuous residence period required to secure permanent residence. As a result, affected foreign nationals may need to re-assess the point from which they are eligible to apply for permanent residence on the basis of a 10-year long residence.
