Vietnam: Chinese Nationals Eligible for Temporary Resident Card
July 28, 2025
Chinese nationals are now eligible to apply for a Temporary Resident Card (TRC) in Vietnam, whereas they were previously limited to obtaining a loose-leaf visa. TRCs issued will be accompanied by a loose-leaf visa that will store entry and exit stamps and must be presented together with the TRC and passport at immigration checkpoints. TRC approval remains at the discretion of the provincial immigration authorities, and implementation practices may vary from one province to another. Note that Chinese nationals with a long-term visa can only qualify for a TRC if their work permit is valid for more than one year.
This change may be linked to the VNeID (digital identity document) rollout, as TRC status is a requirement for registration. The VNeID remains unavailable to non-TRC holders.
