Work Permit Policies Not Expected to Change for Remainder of 2013
October 23, 2013
The Canadian government is not expected to implement additional changes to its work permit policies in 2013, according to information provided at a recent conference on skilled migration. There are indications that Canada might reintroduce an expedited Labor Market Opinion option in 2014, though no details are available at this time.
Earlier this year, the Canadian government announced a number of proposals to increase restrictions on the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and to enhance the government’s compliance monitoring capabilities. Some of these proposals were implemented over the summer. The proposed introduction of a system of inspectors to carry out worksite visits is not expected to be implemented until early 2014.
