Carmita serves as a liaison to Fragomen’s partners around the world, managing consistent client service excellence in delivery of the firm’s global mobility capabilities. She uses her deep understanding of immigration law to develop and implement holistic plans to ensure a seamless employee experience across jurisdictions, manage risk and ensure compliance. As a member of Fragomen’s Global Executive Committee, Carmita helps set the firm’s strategic vision and philosophy, manage its worldwide operations and ensure it remains progressive, agile, efficient, innovative and consistent across all its jurisdictions. She also serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Culture and Inclusion Committee, which provides guidance and makes recommendations to actively enhance inclusion and belonging throughout the firm.

An advisor to financial services firms, technology and professional services organizations, leading law firms and a broad range of small and medium corporations and individuals, Carmita works alongside clients’ legal departments, government relations groups, mobility groups, HR, talent acquisition and business stakeholders to help them understand policy changes, assess the impact of these changes to their workforce and modify their immigration program accordingly. She also has extensive experience in advising clients with respect to due diligence considerations related to corporate reorganizations such as mergers and acquisitions as well as complex post-transaction employment issues.

Carmita’s own family’s immigration experience, coupled with her early work on behalf of refugees and asylum seekers has infused her commitment to the people who are on the other side of every case. She believes that having the requisite level of knowledge and empathy are crucial to the business and individual goals of every stakeholder as they move through the process.

In addition to her legal practice, Carmita is actively involved in and is recognized as a contributor to the New York legal market. She is a recipient of numerous awards, a member of several professional organizations and a frequent speaker on immigration law topics at conferences and events.

Carmita regularly provides pro bono services to the greater New York City community, particularly the Latino community. She completed six years on the Board of the City Bar Fund, which oversees the New York City Bar Justice Center, the nonprofit legal services affiliate of the New York City Bar Association. She continues to participate in pro bono efforts sponsored by the Justice Center and is an active contributor to the Justice Center’s efforts.

Carmita speaks English and Spanish.
