Carmita Alonso and Parisa Karaahmet, Fragomen Partners and Executive Committee members, have been recognized in the New York Law Journal’s (NYLJ) 2019 list of New York Trailblazers.
The Trailblazers list honors legal professionals who have made significant marks on practices, policies and technological advancements in their sector.
The NYLJ featured profiles of Alonso and Karaahmet, which highlight their pioneering spirit and insights for the future of immigration.
Looking at the immigration landscape, Alonso explains, “We are operating in the most uncertain time. I think that we will continue to see this nationalist approach not just in the U.S., but elsewhere.” As top companies have been outspoken about the impact that new restrictions have on their companies, she predicts that more businesses will come forward in their immigration advocacy efforts.
Alonso and Karaahmet’s profiles also highlight how their families’ personal immigration experiences inform their work today. “It has helped me think through from the client’s perspective what they are going through,” Karaahmet explained. “What sorts of opportunities can we present them that will allow them to have a sense of assurance, of reassurance that we will take care of their needs?”
