About Barbados
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Barbados—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live and/or work in Barbados, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally either receive a business entry authorization when you arrive in Barbados or secure a single or multiple entry visa from a Barbadian consular post before you travel. Business entry authorization is granted for a business stay of no more than seven days; you'll need a work permit if you intend to stay longer.
- Work Authorization: There are two main types of Work Permits in Barbados. The Short-Term Work Permit, granted for up to 11 months; and the Long-Term Work Permit, granted initially for up to three years. For the Long-Term Work Permit, your prospective employer in Barbados must prove that no Barbadian resident or national is qualified for the job you're filling in Barbados.
- Internships/Traineeships: While there is no trainee-specific work authorization category in Barbados, the Short-Term Work Permit is suitable for receiving training.
- Self-sponsored or other residence options: If you're an investor or start-up company owner, there is no specific program available. However, if you're an entrepreneur looking to establish a business in Barbados, you can apply for a long-term work permit and submit proof of transfer of funds for investment, certificate of registration or articles of incorporation, and any related business licenses in support of the application. For remote workers interested in residence authorization, there is also a 12-Month Welcome Stamp that allows you to live in and work remotely from Barbados if you have the means to support yourself and your family during your stay.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
