About Malta
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Malta—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
Malta is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area. If you're a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Malta, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor, depending on your citizenship, you'll generally enter Malta without a visa or need to secure a Schengen C Visa from a Maltese consular post before your travel. The Schengen Area limits stays to 90 days within a 180-day period.
- Work Authorization: The main work authorization category is the Single Permit, which combines work and residence authorization. The Single Permit can be issued for one year and is renewable.
- Internships/Traineeships: You may qualify for a one-year EU Intra-Company Transferee Permit for intra-company training assignments or a six-month training permit for a traineeship in the field and at the level of your studies under the EU Students & Researchers Directive.
- Self-employment: If you're an investor, you may qualify for an investment-based permanent residence category if you're making one of the following investments in Malta: EUR 50,000 in administration fees; EUR 30,000 in government fees for purchased property; EUR 60,000 in government fees for leased property; a EUR 2,000 philanthropic or similar donation; EUR 14,000 in annual rent; EUR 375,000 in the purchase of property; or EUR 650,000 capital investment (at least EUR 75,000 of which is in financial assets); among other requirements. The application must be filed through a licensed agent.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
