The Netherlands: Golden Visa Regime to be Abolished
October 3, 2023
Netherlands continues to be on track to eliminate its residence permit scheme for foreign investors on January 1, 2024. Under the scheme, eligible applicants must contribute at least EUR 1,250,000 to the Dutch economy. Residence permit uptake under this system has been persistently low, and Dutch authorities have previously expressed concerns regarding the difficulty of adjusting the scheme while also preventing its abuse. Eligible investors can still apply for a residence permit under this scheme between now and December 31, 2023. The immigration status of those who currently hold residence permits under this scheme will remain valid until expiration, and holders will be able to renew their status even after January 1, 2024.
