European Union
The European Commission has decided not to suspend the visa waiver policy for U.S. and Canadian citizens, according to a communication released today.
Background
The communication explains that the visa waiver arrangement will be sustained to avoid negative economic consequences and the deterioration of the European Union’s relationship with these countries.
The communication also notes that Canada has made a commitment to work with the European Union to achieve full reciprocity for all EU nationals, however the United States has not moved toward such reciprocity.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
The Commission is expected to report on the progress of further discussions by the end of the year. Therefore, the visa waiver and current business travel rules will likely remain in place until at least then.
