
Starting January 1, applicants for Indian visas in Australia must make an appointment to submit their application and biometrics at a visa application center. Those without appointments will not be accepted after that date. The new procedure is part of a program to introduce biometrics collection for all Indian visa holders.
Applicants in Australia must make an online appointment at the visa application center with jurisdiction over their place of residence in Australia. Those applying for immigration services other than visa processing (such as PIO and OCI consular services) will still have the option to submit their applications by mail/courier but if applying in person, they will have to undergo biometrics collection.
Diplomatic and Official passport holders on official trips may submit their applications to the High Commission of India in Canberra or Indian consulates in Sydney, Melbourne or Perth. They are exempt from the requirement to apply at a visa application center.
