Australia: Extended Post-Study Stay Period for International Graduates
July 11, 2023
The Australian Department of Home Affairs has implemented changes to the Migration Regulations. The updated rule extends the allowable post-study stay period for certain international students graduating from Australian higher education institutions. Under this policy, the post-study stay period has increased by two years for select Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degree holders. Graduates who do not qualify for the extended stay can apply for an additional Temporary Graduate visa in the Post-Study Work stream at no cost, gaining an extra two years of stay in Australia. These changes, aimed at addressing skills shortages, are benefiting employers by providing access to a larger pool of qualified workers and offering international students increased opportunities to gain work experience in Australia.
