As previously reported, Canada will join the Apostille Convention on January 11, 2024, which will streamline the authentication process for documents originating in Canada. In preparation, the government of Canada has now published additional information about the upcoming apostille process. Starting on January 11, 2024, the government of Canada will issue apostilles for all documents (regardless of the country in which they will use the document). Documents issued or notarized in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Quebec (subject to government approvals) will be apostilled by the corresponding provincial authority. Documents issued or notarized in any other province or by the federal government of Canada will be apostilled by Global Affairs Canada.
