The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the global adoption of digitalisation, affecting the mobility industry in tandem as immigration systems shifted to enable contact-free decision-making and monitoring.
Following suit, in an effort to digitise entry requirements and improve the tracking of visa-exempt foreign nationals for security and immigration tracking purposes, the UK and EU will soon roll out new regulations that will require an extra step for millions of travellers, many of whom have typically only needed a passport for entry to date.
In this Chambers and Partners article, Managing Partner for Europe George Koureas explains the implementation of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) in the UK and the EU, respectively.
