CIC Reduces Application Fees for Temporary Resident Visas, Modestly Increases Work Permit Fees
February 5, 2014
Effective February 6, 2014, the application fee for both single- and multiple-entry temporary resident visas (TRVs) will be C$100, down from C$150 for multiple-entry visas. Applicants will be automatically considered for multiple-entry visas; multiple-entry visas will no longer have to be specifically requested.
Citizens of certain countries are required to obtain a TRV to enter Canada, in addition to needing a work permit to take up employment. The TRV is a travel document obtained from a Canadian diplomatic post abroad and typically stamped in a foreign national’s passport.
There will be minor increases to application fees for work and study permits. The fee for both new and renewed work permit applications will increase by C$5. The fee for new and renewed study permit applications will increase by C$25. Visitors seeking to extend their stay in Canada will see a C$25 fee increase.
What This Means for Employers
These changes should simplify the TRV application process for travelers to Canada by harmonizing the fee and application process for single- and multiple-entry visas.
