Peru: Delays in Adjudication of In-Country Visa Applications
February 23, 2026
Update February 23, 2026: Processing delays persist and have worsened in some cases, particularly for initial in-country visa applications, with some applications taking 50-70 business days. Renewal applications are exceeding four weeks, with some applications taking three months or longer. These delays are due to ongoing internal restructuring following recent government changes and instability. Employers and foreign nationals should continue to anticipate delayed work authorization and payroll start dates in the coming months, particularly as Peru approaches the 2026 general elections, which will elect the presidency, legislature and other government authorities.
November 26, 2025: Foreign nationals applying for in-country initial or renewed visas (including Resident Worker Visas and Appointed Worker Visas) are currently experiencing adjudication delays at the National Superintendence of Immigration, possibly due to some internal restructuring. Processing times for in-country initial visa applications have increased to approximately 50 business days or more (compared to the legal standard of 30 business days), while processing times for renewals have increased to four weeks or more (up from the legal standard of five business days). As a result, foreign nationals and employers seeking to apply for a visa through an in-country process are advised to prepare their documentation and submit immigration applications as early as possible and should also expect delayed work and payroll start dates during the next several months. We will report on relevant developments.
